Round 2

Mary's doctor just stopped in to let us know that she received the preliminary results of Monday's test and that the leukemia is still in my mom's bone marrow. The doctor was sad to report the news, but still encouraging at the same time. She let us know that she's going to be completely honest with us throughout this whole process. She said that she is confident that they will eventually get my mom into remission, it's just a matter of time.

The doctor also gave us a bit of good news. Joe, Mary's youngest brother, is another perfect match for the stem cell transplant! Thank God for these glimmers of hope through these hard few weeks. Ideally they like to use the youngest brother's stem cells for a transplant, so Joe being a match is great news.

Today we're just hanging out. My mom is feeling okay, but sad about having to do another round of chemo. The chemo will start again tomorrow morning and will be a 6-day heavier round. Again on day 14 they'll do the bone marrow test and we'll go from there.

We know that this journey is just a short period in her and our lives, it's tough, but we can get through it. Please continue to pray for my mom's health, for this next round of chemo to have less side effects, and for her continued strength.

  1. Thanks for sharing the news. Sorry, Mary. You keep focusing on God. He is your hope, your healer, your father, and your savior. And, YOU are the apple of His eye!!

There's a song called All I Have that has an awesome chorus:

Jesus, all I have is You.
You're the hope I'm holding to
I might weep but still my faith
    rests in You.

As the heavens hold the skies
It's Your hand that holds my life.
And Your love will lead me on
    When all else is gone.

    Love you.

Mary, so sorry to hear that the cancer is still with you, but I am sure that the next round will take care of that. Keep your spirits up and have faith that God is still with you and will continue to do so. You have a guardian Angel sitting on your shoulder, helping to guide you through this difficult time. I will continue to pray for you that the next round of chemo won't have the side affects that you had in the 1st round and that it will put you in remission. Take care of yourself and good luck through these next 6 days. I know that He won't let you down.

  7. Hey Mary, that's too bad you have to undergo another round of treatment, but I am believing that you will whip this, with God's help! We are all standing with you in faith for God's healing to take place, to cleanse your blood through the blood of Jesus! That's the "side effect" of something like this, to know how much you are cared for and to be immersed in God's love through everyone's prayers. Love and prayers,

  12. Hi Mary and family, I also, like Dana, thought of a song. Sometimes there's no words to say and I'm thankful for songs and prayers that are stuck in my memory.
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases
His mercies never come to an end
They are new every morning, new every morning,
Great is thy faithfulness Oh Lord!
    Great is thy faithfulness....
Always lifting your name to the throne,
    Love, Patti

  13. Hi Mary,
We were sad to hear that you have to endure another round of chemo, but we know that God has a plan for you on this journey he has put you on. This blog is enough to know the many many people that your faith and inspiration have already touched. You are going to have a great story to share to inspire many down the road that will make this journey after you. Keep up the great attitude and we will keep up the prayers! My verse for the day (that I use at least three times a week) is "I can do all things thru Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13 We pray you will continue to draw your strength from God and your great family.

  17. Hi Mary and family -
Just heard you were ill and read your blog about your journey through this illness. It's such a powerful testament to the love of your family and your faith. Thank you so much for your witness. Loved the photo of your family on the front page too - how beautiful you all are!

My prayers are with you. You are so blessed to have matching donors! And today I especially pray that this round of chemo achieve its goal; that the health care professionals helping you be richly blessed in their work; and that you and all your family are sustained by faith and maintain hope in a healthy tomorrow.

  20. Mary...This is just another test to see how strong you, your family and loved ones really are...you will beat this...stay strong, take it day by day or even hour by hour if you have to...its easier to accomplish the smaller goals first in order to reach the larger ones!

  22. Mary,
I don't know if you have ever read anything by Charles Spurgeon but as I read my devotional for tonite it was exactly what God wanted you to hear. Psalm 84:11 The Lord Bestows favor and honor. God is wonderfully generous by nature to give is His delight. His gifts are immeasurably precious and are given as freely as the light of the sun. He gives grace to His own because he will it, to His redeemed because of His covenant, to the called because of His promise, to believers because they seek it, to sinners because they need it. He gives grace abundantly, seasonably, constantly, readily, overeignly; the value of the blessins is doubled by the manner in which it is given. The honor of heaven, the honor of eternity, the honor of Jesus, the honor of the Father--the Lord will certainly give all this to His chosen. What a wonderful promise from a faithful God!! Two golden links of one celestial chain: Who owns favor shall surely honor gain. Thinking about you and just have the assurance that you are such a strong person and with God's help and favor that He will bring you through this!!! Keep up the good work. You have found favor in His eyes!!!
