  9. From Dave Steep
    Mary:
It is very difficult for me to think about you being sick and in the hospital. But then it is always difficult to think of anybody you know and care about being sick - doesn't matter if it is a life-long friend or a family member. We always think that it doesn't happen to us or the people around us. But it does happen and will happen to all of us in time - and as many have said in these messages - it is all about what God has in His master plan - for you and all of us.

You may or may not know, but I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in late 2002. Receiving that message from the Doctor is probably the most frightening and mind numbing thing we will ever hear. But for those of us who know our Heavenly Father, we have a place to turn. Someone to trust when everything around us forever changes. We can trust that no matter what, God is with us and will see us through the good days and the bad days - and the outcome will be His will and part of His plan.

One of the things I came across during my journey had to do with discerning prayer. You probably have already seen it - but when I think about you now, I think about this with the hope that it can somehow help you "let go and let God":

    Discerning Prayer

Discernment is prayer meeting a problem. It is a specific form of prayer. When we spend time in prayer and discernment, there is an openess to God where we extend our hands and say "God, I can't see the next step let alone beyond it. So, I am going to simply open myself to you and trust that in the right time, you will show me. Help me wait for you".

We are not taught how to be patient as we pray, we live in a time of instant gratification and prayer does not guarantee instant answers to our prayers. It is a leap of faith to discern God's voice, God's will and God's purpose for our lives.

Romans 12:12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer.

Jill and I will continue to raise you up in our prayers. We have also included you in our prayer chain as well as prayer of the church on Sunday's. Know that we think of you and your entire family often and send our best wishes and love.

    Dave

  10. Hey Mary,
If I could still do a cartwheel....I would!! You are so awesome and God truly has a specific plan for your life. Continue to look to Him for strength and allow your family and friends to be there for you. We continue to lift you and your family up in prayer. God bless you and may the Holy Spirit fill you with such a immense feeling of peace that only God can give!
