Good News!

Hi everyone! We received some good news today...

The stem cell transplant department of the hospital just called to talk to my mom and told her that her sister, Sue, and her brother, Ed, are both perfect matches for a stem cell transplant!! Praise the Lord!! They are the only siblings that have been tested so far, out of 7, so we are 2 for 2!

That is such great news to us because, assuming all things go according to plan, that will speed up the healing process. Mom is currently in her 6th day of chemo out of 7. After these 7 days she will rest in the hospital for 7 days. After that they will decide whether she needs to do another round of chemo before the stem cell transplant.

Mom's doing okay today. She's battling a bit of a fever so that makes it kind of uncomfortable. She also has sores in her mouth, which she was told to expect. She's eating some lunch right now and we plan on going on a walk after.

Thank you for your continued prayers.

  1. That is great news!!! My dad had the mouth sores and he said the only thing that seemed to work for him was when they gave him something to numb his mouth. It was like swaths that the dentist uses to numb a tooth before he gives the shot. I'm sure Northwestern has already thought of better ideas....but, that is what I know.
    God bless you, Mary.

  3. Miracles from God!!! I was all smiles when I read that Sue & Ed were perfect matches!! I only wish I lived closer in order to come and visit, but know that there were many Lutherans praying for you on Sunday in St. Louis. Mary, stay strong and enjoy being waited on....! Dave sends his love & support, too.

  4. That is GREAT news...thank you so much for keeping everyone updated, the good news makes me smile at the end of a long, busy, day at work!!! Can they give you a little viscous lidocaine to swish to help with the pain in your mouth if they haven't already?
    Love,
    Heather

  8. Do you not know?
    Have you not heard?
    The Lord is the everlasting God,
    the Creator of the ends of the earth.
    He will not grow tired or weary,
    and his understanding no one can fathom.
    He gives strength to the weary
    and increases the power of the weak.
    Even youths grow tired and weary,
    and young men stumble and fall;
    but those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
    They will soar on wings like eagles;
    they will run and not grow weary,
    they will walk and not be faint.Isaiah 40:28-31

  10. Mary - What wonderful news! Angie texted me before I even had a chance to log onto the blog. I wanted to visit you yesterday because I was supposed to be in the city, but I've had a cold and/or allergies and didn't want to bring that into you. I think about you constantly and pray for positive news always. The comment about Amy's kids bringing you cheer brought a smile to me. They are certainly uplifting, aren't they? God Bless and please know there are so many of us praying for you.
    Love and prayers,
    Patsy

    The news of 2 perfect matches is awesome. God works wonders. Tim had 2 perfect matches also. He only has 3 siblings though. Stay positive and keep smiling. God is smiling down on you!
