The "Big C" and "little c"

It is the name of Jesus which, through faith in him, has brought back the strength of this one whom you see here...that has restored this one back to health. Acts 3:16

We want the "Big C" (Christ, that is) to conquer the "litte c" (cancer)...

Let us never refer to cancer as the "Big C" again!! Let these words cause an instant change to our perspective and serve as a lasting reminder of where the fullest healing power lies - in our Lord Jesus Christ!

Today has been a good day of rest! Mary spiked a fever early this morning that was a cause for concern for the rest of the day..and they decided that starting chemo might not be best until they know she is competely ready for it.

Since early this morning her temp has been fine, her blood pressure has been good, and her platelets are hanging around 15 (which is awesome because she had some tranfused in her this morning and they've lasted all day).

Pray that this fever is nothing to be worried about tonight so we can move forth tomorrow! God has the timing in His hands and we are waiting on Him!

Please be sure to call Amy (815)343-5977 if you are planning a visit. We have lots of visitors on the weekends and it may be a bit overwhelming if you all come at once..we just ask that you call and double check with how she's feeling and maybe plan on a short visit during this time so Mary can get all the rest her body needs!
She loves you all and is very grateful for all the support!

  1. Julie, what a beautiful post! So true, so true! I'm glad that you could get lots of rest today, Mary. It's good to hear about your temp, your blood pressure, and your platelets. I'm still praying for you - God and I talk about you a lot. :) Get some good sleep tonight. Love ya and good night.

  2. I’m in 8th grade…just tried out for cheerleading and was one of three girls in the whole class that did not make it. I’m devastated…the world is coming to an end! During the summer after 8th grade graduation I made friends with “the girl down the street”. High School cheerleading tryouts are coming up…my “friend” says…your trying out….I’m saying…you have got to be kidding…8th grade failure is still very fresh in my mind…so together…every night we practice…she was my “cheerleader”…we are like sisters for four wonderful years…don’t get me wrong…there were up times and down times…some of the guys we dated were…jerks…but together…with the “believe” attitude…we weathered what ever was dealt us…my “friend” was majorette and upon her graduating I filled her spot. We went our separate ways for 30+ years…learning our “lessons in life”. Now 30+ years later I’m living again next to “the girl down the street”…but this time I am her “cheerleader”. Mary, we believed in the 70’s, we are believers now…your spirit/soul is strong…this is just like my 8th grade (1st set of chemo)…your high school round (2nd set of chemo) is the wonderful future coming your way. I believe you and I will once again be standing on the old high school gym floor, reminiscing about cheerleading tryouts, at Lunch with the Bunny 2010. You are strong, your family is strong and your friends (whether current exercise, church, neighbors or past) are strong…we are cheering you on. I think of you at night and I think of you the first thing in the morning….sending you the “believe” waves……
    Huge hugs your way,
    Kathy

  3. Good morning Mary!
Many continue to follow and pray for you. Today's devotions said it best:

Compassion is sometimes the fatal capacity for feeling what it is like to live inside somebody else's skin. It is the knowledge that there can never really be any peace and joy for me until there is peace and joy finally for you too.

    Father in Heaven,
I thank You, that I will never reach the end of my rope, because You never give up Hope.
When I imagine the worst for me, even then I believe that You can use it for good.
So I shall hold on-- praying --expectantly!
    In Jesus' name.
    Amen!

Blessings to you from Nancy Larson!

  4. Mary,
I am also sorry to hear the news about the cancer. We all know that God's timing is perfect and he reminds me of that often when I try to "plan" my life :) I am praying for a relaxing and fun weekend with family and friends. I guess if we want that cancer to be gone for good, this second dose will do it!!!
Please know you and all of your family is in my families prayers.
    Love you all,
    Laurie Leslie

  5. Hi Mary,
Jack gave me your blog address and the first thing I read upon opening it was the comments that Kathy made about cheerleading in 8th grade and HS. For us 50-somethings, you were our inspiration and role model with your talent, grace, and friendly attitude (even to those younger than you). Although I haven't seen you in 35 years, I can tell by the posts that I've read that those characteristics never left you and you continue to smile through even the toughest adversity. Know that my prayers are with you--and that goes for Joe, Vince, Frank, and Mary K who also send their love. My mom always recalled with fondness the day The Bustamante's moved to Seneca and how she met the Kaufmann's who immediately took her family under their wing and helped them settle into "small town" life. Now it's our turn to take you under our wing (through prayer and email, it seems) and support you while you "settle" through this new life. But I've got to say that I look forward to catching up with you when you are in remission and back home.

Keeping you close to "The BIG C" in prayer,
    Peg

  6. Dear Mary,
We just wanted to let you know that we are keeping you in our prayers. You are a very strong person with strong faith and are surrounded by family and friends who love you. Madison brought in my AML bracelet yesterday to school and asked me to pray for her grammy. I gave her a big hug and said that you bet I will:) Hang in there Mary! We know you have the strength to fight this.
    Love,
    The Hovious Family

  7. Mary, I finally got this computer to allow me to "visit" you in the Hospital. We are both praying for you each day and send our best thoughts for your full recovery. You have a wonderful family and they will get you through all this "ick" that you are going through. Best of luck and we will see you in Seneca very soon.

All our love.............Joyce & Jerry Barla
